Avalanche Bubble tea- formally known as "Oh Bubble"- formally known as Chill Bubble Tea -always the same owner- this super nice Korean man named Jay. The drinks are amazing! Best tasting bubble teas IMO in Chicago. Better than what you get can get at the mall. I believe it is because they use a specific type of powder formula. I do know they have a gazillion flavors that you can intermix. Their chocolate peanut butter tastes like a Reese's. sooo good! You can ask for extra tapioca or none! I used to enjoy them but I read some stuff online about the production of tapioca balls and it's a huge turn off. No worries though- the drinks are still amazing without them!
(5)Cher D.
I love this place! Quick and friendly service and the only place I've found that makes the milk tea just the way I like it!
(4)Jackie T.
I love their bubble tea. They have a huge selection of flavors to choose from. It's relaxing to sit and drink it or you can walk across the street and sit in the park they are the perfect snack to hold you over.
(5)Cyril L.
I am a regular at Avalanche and their bubble tea is amazing. I usually go for the strawberry chocolate which is now my usual. The person running the register doesn't even need to ask me what I want anymore. The place also offers a great ambiance and is a usual spot for youngsters on Friday and Saturday nights. The service is amazing!!! If you're craving dessert late at night on a weekend, stop by Avalanche and grab a bubble tea.
(5)Lenny G.
A wide variety of bubble tea choices. The avalanche is an interesting variation (a thicker consistency, like a light milkshake), but I like the regular bubble tea better. It's a little expensive at nearly $4 for a small cup.
(4)Venessa F.
First experience in here yesterday on a muggy day... I've had Bubble Teas before but this was the BEST!! The owner is very friendly and professional. Trendy and mild atmosphere....really a cute place! $5 for a large was better than getting a Frap. from Starbucks! They need a website with listed flavors or some menus for the neighborhood. (Merely a suggestion).
(5)Bryn R.
I am obsessed. As sad as it is, I have been home from school for about 3 weeks and the owner already knows me by name. But hey, that says good customer service right? AND it shows how delicious the drinks are! My favorite is the Fried Banana!!!! It is perfectly sweet and salty and I always get extra tapioca balls :D DEFINITELY TRY IT OUT!!!!!
(5)Abhishek N.
It's one of my best GO_TO places if I want a drink . . I've had only their avalanche's and they are really good . Try out the Avacado avalanche with Lychee Jelly . Truly amazing. the cantaloupe come's second . I'd stay around this area just to have a drink from this place. Have it as a dessert or as a refresher .... or both . Cant go wrong . Generally the High school crowd hang around here with the hookah place next door. It's the best i've had so far around the country ( 4 states of trying out bubble tea at different places )
(5)Taylor M.
I drove past this place on my way to Skokie. I saw the sign for bubble tea out of the corner of my eye and immediately bookmarked it so I could stop by on my way home! I was really glad I remembered to bookmark Avalanche. The ambiance was really trendy and cool. It was overrun with high schoolers, so I chose to get my drink to go. I wanted a cherry pineapple bubble tea, but they were out of cherry, so I got Honeydew Pineapple which was perfectly sweet and fantastic. My boyfriend got a Peanut Butter and Banana bubble tea minus the bubbles. I do not like banana but his drink was amazing as well. The girl working the cash register was super friendly and helpful. I will definitely return next time I am in the area!
(5)Christine L.
+ Open late! + So many choices! + Friendly staff! + Free WiFi! + Interesting decor & big couches. + Convenient location for bubble tea (for me anyway). - Some drinks are too sweet (but not all!) - Sometimes crowded meaning sometimes not enough seats :( -
(4)Lois K.
Perfect go to spot for dessert! My family loves this place. The bubble tea is better than Joy Yee's. The girl who works behind the register also makes the drinks and she always gets it right. Super friendly, efficient and great service.
(5)Ana H.
I usually drive here to get my bubble tea fix. I have been to all the bubble tea places in chinatown, been to the ones in schamburg and to be honest this place has the best pineapple coconut bubble tea, lets not forget that I love the tapioca balls squishy and not frozen. Which is a big problem for some of the places around here. I think for my quick fix and when it's very full, I just park at the gas station and walk there to get my drinks. I do dislike the prepubescent crowds here on Friday and Saturday, but it's better then having them get knocked up or doing drugs on the weekends.
(5)Christian M.
The best bubble tea in the city. I would drive the extra distance just to purchase their bubble tea. The owner is very nice and recognizes his regular customers, so it makes people like myself feel more welcome. There is a great lounge area where you could find yourself spending countless hours talking if you don't watch out for the time. Overall, it's a must place to check out if you are looking for great drinks and overall experience.
(5)Julia K.
A lot of my friends go here for bubble tea and to hang out. It's a really good hang out place for to relax with your friends. I tried a lot of their flavors, such as taro, milk tea, strawberry, mango, etc. One thing I love about their bubble tea place is that they give extra tapioca with no charge. I also love how they have a promotion type of thing, where you get 9 bubble tea, they will give you the 10th one for free. They give you a card and punch a hole every time you get a bubble tea. This used to be my favorite bubble tea place but now I don't live as close so I don't go here as much as I would like to anymore.
(5)Jennie T.
There's free Wifi here and lots of comfy couches. A perfect hang-out place. I like the decor. It's simple and pretty. I like my hot almond milk tea. The bobas were a little too soft and mushy for me though. The shop has lots of flavors. It reminded me a little of Quicky's, Q-Cups, and Tapioca Expresses in California... only without the bright blue and orange decor colors and snacks like popcorn chicken. The staff seemed friendly, but they wouldn't give me a cup of tap water nor could I bring in a bottle of water from our car (they have a no outside food or beverage policy). I had to buy a bottle of water ($1.00 each). This is totally stupid, IMO. Their specialty is in bubble tea. Don't charge me for (tap) water when I only want it as a side.
(2)Nancy D.
Great verity of drinks to choose from. The place is clean and drinks taste very very good. Been going here for several years now. It's interior has a warm welcoming and you can enjoy your drink inside.
(5)Francis E.
I've been to so many places with bubble tea back on the East Coast and this one tops the list. Their cheesecake bubble tea, to which any flavour can be added, is properly excellent.
(5)Debbie M.
Loved the green bubble tea. It was a blended frozen drink, which I never had before with bubble tea, but I really liked it and found it refreshing. There were a wide variety of flavors to choose from. The bubbles were soft and fresh. The cafe was cozy with plenty of couches and tables with access to free Wi-Fi.
(5)Ali S.
Great place to grab a drink. I like the milk bubble tea and piña colata bubble tea. The service is fast, they are open late... Nice place to go since the atmosphere is good, the place has a TV, sofas, tables and it is clean !
(5)Victoria O.
Me and my kids love this place. A large variety and its very cozy unlike Chill Bubble tea in Village crossing. Love the decor and its close to my house!!
(5)Pash H.
I was skeptical at first about this place, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had stumbled across Avalanche on Yelp since I wanted to get some bubble tea near by. The hybrid bubble tea is great, it just means that real fruit is added into the mix. I definitely can't wait to go back and try more flavors! I'm so glad I finally found a place whose tapioca doesn't taste bad!
(5)Natasha R.
Back when the name was O! Bubble Tea, this used to be my go to place for bubble tea. Their selection is HUGE, and I've never had anything bad here. Their tapioca is not as good as I find in Liquid Fusion, so that's my main reason why I don't come here as often. My favorite drink here is Green Tea with tapioca... I can have it day or night, hot or cold. The owner is beyond friendly and a very genuine person. I love bringing business to him because he seems to truly care for his customers. The actual building is small, but the place is designed super cute, with different shades of red on the walls. They have cute paintings and decor, and plenty of seats to enjoy a nice cold drink, when it's not too packed. One negative is that it does get packed, mostly summer and weekend nights. So you need to keep that in mind because this place is bursting with high school kids. We usually just get a drink to go. Another negative is that it's on the same plaza as a Hookah bar, so parking gets very limited. I work close to this location, so I try to come here for lunch. They have a punch card where you buy 9, and the 10th is free. I'm halfway there! If you are in the area and are craving some tapioca balls, I def recommend coming here. You will be lost with choices on what to order!
(4)Sadie T.
Yum Yum Yum. LOTS of combination choices (but then of course not using fresh fruit). I had the mango lychee. Very good. Service was friendly. But the tables were all dirty, and the staff sat on a laptop rather than wiping down the dirty tables. Prices are not on the board, it was $4 for a small (probably 12 oz). Casual place. Good product.
(4)Katie L.
I'm always in Niles since my bf lives here and he wanted me to try this, so WHY NOT BABY? I LOVE a lll bubble tea, but that doesn't mean all bubble tea is good. This place was alright! I got the fresh fruit mango, but it still tasted like powder, I wish there was more zest! But SUPER cute environment!!! Love the red walls! The man who made my shake was super kind and friendly!
(3)K R.
I have two dislikes about this place.. a) I hate the chairs in there at the tables. They're uncomfortable; b) I don't like the crowd... no offense. However.. neither of those things reflect on the service or product and therefore I give the place 5 stars! The bubble teas are delicious and the employees are very nice. My bubble tea last night was strawberry banana but I tasted both of those fruits which is great. :)
(5)Keith S.
Great drinks and nice place to hang out. Chairs could use some refinishing. Drinks are great though and that's why you're coming here. Simple as that.
(4)Annie I.
I love this place.. I always get the mango with light on the tapioca -it's my absolute favorite! The atmosphere is a nice relaxing place to go with a friend or two. The owners are super nice, it was raining once and I had 4 drinks to carry out and he held an umbrella to help me to my car (:
(5)Sereena C.
Sooo tasty and refreshing. I love the strawberry raspberry banana one with tapioca of course :-)
(5)Anna A.
This is THE best bubble tea I EVER had! The employees are always nice and cheerful and that bubble tea yumm ! Since I has it for the first time, this is the only place that will satisfy my craving :D I recommend this place to everyone. Keep up the great work!
(5)Mariam S.
They are the best bubble tea in Chicago. There are places closer to my house but we specifically go to this one. They are very nice as well. My personal favorite is milk bubble tea. Their pineapple and coconut is awesome too. The place is hip and decor is cute. Prices are pretty good. A large for $4.45 not bad at all.
(5)Sara R.
Avalanche has the best bubble tea! This place really turned me on to bubble tea,I have been going here for several years now and they never disappoint. There is free WiFi and really comfy couches. The owner and staff are always very friendly and efficient. The frozen bubble tea with strawberry, coconut, & banana is quite tasty. They have a huge selection of flavors and you can mix and match.
(5)Jen P.
Avalanche Bubble Tea is truly a hidden gem. The first time I came here was about 5 years ago and I never heard of bubble tea before. I thought it was actually a tea place and not smoothies. But wow, they have some of the best flavored smoothies!!! My favorite flavor is raspberry mango. I also did not used to like the tapioca balls but after a few tries I got addicted to them and so did my boyfriend! I highly recommend this place and the raspberry mango flavor!!
(5)Nataliya A.
The variety, the taste, the service, the atmosphere are all great! I was in need of some caffeine later in the evening when all coffee shops were closed, so we figured this would be the best alternative before going to the hookah that's next door. First thing we asked was about caffeine and the cashier right away started asking if I wanted hot or cold, etc. I am lactose intolerant so that narrowed some stuff down. We stopped on the cold French vanilla smoothie with tapioca. That was an amazing choice! It was smooth, creamy, not too watery but not too chunky, and the tapioca was just right. Only thing was that I somehow managed to make a tiny crack at the top of the cup that kept dripping slightly when it was still full, but that may have been due to my own misuse of the cup :). My friens got hot chocolate and the hot French vanilla with tapioca. They both were good, even the hot drink with tapioca. I am for sure making another trip out here, and wil start going down the list. I'd need to make a loooot of visits to try everything they have though! Maybe I'll just start with the avocado smoothie :).
(5)Kathleen P.
Delightful...in every way. This is a charming little place with a modern decor and an amazing menu. The service is impeccable and they are so friendly you may never want to leave! I had the pineapple and coconut bubble tea smoothie with tapioca. It was delicious! My friend had the passion fruit and she was in heaven. The smoothies are sealed with a cool plastic lid and when you poke your straw through the plastic, it still remains sealed nicely...no spillls : )) I will definitely return!
(5)Mike K.
I'm addicted! My favorite is the strawberry/peach which is a fresh fruit version. The tapioca is soft and melts in your mouth. I have tried Joy Yees in Evanston and, although all of their bubble teas are fresh fruit, their tapioca is not soft--rather, it has a hard center. I just discovered this place 2 weeks ago and I find myself driving way out of my way to have another!!
(5)Viki T.
A super comfortable place! My friend and I were here for the first time and felt in love from the first sight :) the owner gave us wonderful advice what to choose and gave some samples to decide. Definitely I will come back!
(5)D G.
Its impossible to get a dairy free bubble tea. The girl at the register told me they put 'non-dairy creamer' (which I cannot have) in all recipes, so I asked if they could just make one without, all fruit, she said they could not do that. So I walked out without a drink, which is annoying, if I wanted to drive around without a drink I wouldn't have wasted the time to come here, obviously. With such a varied menu you would think they'd have a soy or almond milk option, or at least be flexible on what they throw in the blender.
(1)Jelena Z.
Who would have guessed that bubble tea could be made in 87 flavors? Oh boy. Oh Bubble Tea! This bright and funky little shop boasts standard bubble tea smoothies (with tapioca, if you wish), milk teas, fresh fruit freezes and bubble tea creations (think more exotic flavor combinations like watermelon milk tea and peanut butter cup). I settled on the mango strawberry. Very fresh, though I would have preferred a touch more mango over strawberry. Or, the name should actually be 'strawberry mango' if we're gonna get technical. I fortified mine with tapioca, and my smoothie was filled with just the right amount of tapioca and no clumps (a big peet peeve of mine). Also, I sampled the cantaloupe flavor... winner! It was recommended by the owner as currently the most popular flavor. And if it matters to you, this shop seems to be popular with a lot of high-schoolers. They can be a little loud at times, but overall are really respectful of others in the shop. A wholesome hangout, for sure! Free wi-fi and parking, too.
(4)Cindy L.
I've tried this place twice now - the first time was an honest try and I honestly hated it but I thought it was because I ordered something different than I usually get. The second time, I ordered what I always get whenever I get bubble tea and I was totally disgusted and annoyed by the entire experience. I walked in on a Friday afternoon - the place was empty - the girl who helped me acted as if I was an inconvenience to her day. My bubble tea itself tasted like it was full of chemicals and all artificial flavory aftertaste. The tapioca balls themselves were way too soft and had absolutely no flavor - may as well have put balls of glue in there. I will never go back here.
(1)Aimee M.
It's not my favorite place for Bubble drinks, but if I'm in the area and have a craving for it, I'll stop in. The shop is bright and eclectic with mismatched seating and funky wall decor. The folks behind the counter are always friendly and so patient when I'm trying to decide what to order. The drink menu is quite extensive--they mostly do fruit freezes and can mix up different flavors for you. I like having the choice of flavors, but I'm not sure if they use fresh or frozen fruit or just the fruit powders as everything is mixed in the back. The reason I bring this up is because the fruit drinks are very sweet. More sweet than fruity. I do love that they're ice-cold and the tapioca bubbles are well made and almost have a "melty" quality to them once you start chewing them. Here I prefer the almond tea bubble drink as it's not as sweet as the fruit drinks. There is free wi-fi and easy parking. Nice spot to hang out if you have some time.
(3)Amy L.
Not a fan of places that use powder as flavoring for EVERYTHING. I prefer real fruit and will stick to Joy Yee's for my bob fix.
(2)Andrew S.
Avalanche, formerly known as O! Bubble Tea and Chill Bubble Tea, continues to impress. With their wide variety of flavors to choose from, you can't really go wrong. My new favorite Honeydew Kiwi is a refreshing blend of ACTUAL fruit. I've tried almost everything on their top 10 menu and i've never been disappointed.
(5)Laura C.
I guess they got a new name! Used to be "Oh Bubble Tea"....very friendly people working here and FABULOUS bubble tea combos. I am completely hooked. I like that they have longer hours so I can pop in here after a late dinner and have a treat.
(5)Kristen B.
This place is a haven for me and my many friends who marched with the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps. After a loooooong day of marching and performing in not one, but THREE 4th of July Parades, we were turned loose in Morton Grove to enjoy the evening fireworks. Of course, after discovering this bubble tea place, I fell in love. They have SO MANY FLAVORS here -- and you can combine flavors, so the possibilities are pretty much endless. The smoothies are especially good. The service was pretty fast, considering the only time I've been here there were 60+ of us waiting in line to get our bubble tea fix. Now, will someone please open a Chill franchise in California?
(5)Jen A.
One of the things I miss most since moving away is Bubble Tea! This place is adorable and welcoming, with plenty of comfy seating. The menu is extensive with dozens of flavors - lack of fresh fruit doesn't bother me. I love the Pear with tapioca. I also like how they use the plastic seal over the top so you drink can't spill out!
(4)Fancy N.
Bubble tea is supposed to made of fruit, this place uses NO FRUIT. It's all powder, sugar and artificial flavorings. They have minimal fruit to use as decoration on top of your bubble tea, but not to blend in your actual drink. I saw this as a total disappointment. However the disappointment continues. The place is overloaded with Asian teenagers in the 13-15 yr old range, probably those that have to walk here, because they dont have a drivers license. Of course the kids goof off, but they are loud, they spill their drinks all over the couches and just get up and leave. No one dares clean up the mess they made, and the girl making the smoothies is too busy to do it. The couches are dirty, you can easily find a used slimy straw while you sit down, some couches are flat out broken of the fake leather is split open. This place could definitely use a deep cleaning. If you want real fruit and FRESH smoothies, try Liquid Fusion in Glenview, much better quality, but sticky tables and dirty couches persist there too.
(2)Nemecio B G.
They don't use fresh fruits but the bubble shakes are still good that's all I care
(4)Sean A.
I was coming back from lunch with my Aunt and found this place. What a FInd! It is adorable inside, the owner is unbelievably nice and helpful and the Bubble Tea is EXCELLENT. And it is not the kind of place you will ever get bored with, they have more favors than I care to try to count. Very impressive and delicious here. The vibe is hip and fun, cute decor and also off FREE Wi-fi. Along with the bubble tea you can get hot beverages, etc. A great place to relax, get a yummy drink and just chill.
(5)Frank A.
This place is actually good in that there aren't many choices of bubble tea outside of the city. Yea, yea, yea. They may not use real fruit. Fortunately, my personal favorites are tarot coconut and lychee, so it's not that big of a deal. They seal your drinks with a cute top featuring some Asian cartoon characters that you can puncture with your straw. Slightly pricier than Chinatown, but you can't get too picky outside of the city I guess.
(4)adam r.
Bubble Tea is dessert in my opinion, so I'm not too conscious about what's going in it other than tastiness. Comfy place to chill and a nice break from from the work day. It's fairly quiet there duing the day, so bring a book, grab a tea, and find yourself a cozy chair to kick back in. My drink: Mango Banana with extra Tapioca.
(4)Ali Z.
I love the fresh fruit smoothies this place serves up....they are as good as any I've had outside of Chinatown. Strawberry-banana, strawberry-watermelon, mango, and Pina Colada are some of the good picks. I recently tried one of the milk teas and found it to be excellent too. They have a HUGE menu of different Bubble Tea flavors in every possible flavor combination so there's always something new to try. The guy behind the counter is friendly and the funky decor gives the place a nice ambiance. This is a great little Bubble Tea joint and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!
(5)June P.
Their bubble tea is average. I typically go to Chill in Skokie or Joy Yee's in Evanston, but they open late and I live close by. Good place to satisfy my cravings when my usual places are closed. It's a hotspot for teens on late evenings on weekends, but that shouldn't deter you. Lightly recommended.
(3)Stacey P.
I have been to chill twice. Once years ago when they first opened. I ask the guy... me. Do you use real fruit in your bubble tea? guy. Yes. me. Ok I'll have a mango slush with boba. I get my mango slush with boba. It is powder and it is WAY sweet. I threw it away after a few sips. I went again today, years later, since I heard it's alright now. I got a hot almond milk tea. It was good... I suppose, but not what I enjoy in a milk tea. I like the tea taste, and not too much sweetness. This tea tasted so rich and creamy like ice cream. I suppose good to some, but not to others. Not to me! I threw this one away after a few sips as well. the comfy chairs are a plus, though! i had trouble leaving because i was so snuggly in those big red chairs.
(2)Samantha S.
I love how this place has a large selection of flavors especially for hot drinks. Strawberry chocolate is my favorite, and is served hot or cold.
(5)Natasha K.
This place has more flavors than I've ever seen, which makes choices extremely hard. The fresh fruit smoothies are ofcourse the best, and I'm wondering if they put some sorta drugs into them, since I'm HOOKED! I wake up thinking of a pear smoothie, with its yummy tapioca balls that you can sip through a straw. Careful, tho, those lil bastards fly into your throat at 100mph. The guy that works there is extremely pleasant and nice, which is a great treat nowadays in itself. The decor is very cozy, with red walls, black and white Paris photos on the wall, with some Oriental flair. Very clean and comfortable looking. I love it!
(5)Erik W.
I got a green tea milk tea with tapioca balls. The milk tea itself was okay, but the tapioca had some weird syrupy taste to it. It felt like I was drinking balls of high fructose corn syrup. On the good side, the couch seats were very comfortable.
(2)Leocris L.
man, i knew this place when it was called chill. oh! sounds like a pretty ridiculous name, but i do love the drinks. i'm not sure what would make it a 5 star type yelp rating of establishment, and i guess i do like the drinks better at joy yee's noodle. maybe if one of the girls at the register gave me their number, i might rate an extra star.
(4)Genevieve C.
Super great place! Occasionally I'll come across a flavor combo that rubs me the wrong way (the peanut doesn't taste peanut buttery...it tastes like a dry nut...if that makes any sense at all). But overall, it's great--my fave so far is cocoa mint, and my mother likes Strawberry Banana Kiwi. My mom has a condition where she can't have dairy, so it's a great dessert choice, as they can make it with non-dairy creamer. I've been going since it was called Chill Bubble Tea, and I think the service is much friendlier and the drinks are better under the new management. Sadly, same chairs and couches--which aren't evenly padded all over, so if you sit in the wrong place, your bum will come down rather hard on a wood beam! A word to the wise--if you let your bubble tea sit too long, the bubbles get too fat and bloated to fit through the straw! Then you'll have to spear them with your straw and bite them off the end, and that is just SOO HARD. ;D Seriously, though, I'm sold. Their pre-teen demographic will have to deal with having someone as old as me "crash" their favorite hangout. Sorry, kids! Mama needs her fix.
(4)Yasoob A.
Oh! Bubble Tea is a joy to the taste buds. This is a rare bubble tea cafe that has a long list of flavors. Try the almond coconut its my combination of choice. The service is always friendly and they are always open late. It's worth the drive!
(4)Wendy M.
I'm hesitant on getting bubble tea outside of Chinatown because most places that don't get a lot of business will use the powders instead of real ingredients. I asked the girl if they used real ingredients or the powders and she said that they use all real ingredients so i proceed to order a small taro with tapioca. She steps into the back to make it so i can't see what she's putting in it. Of course it was powder. I was in a rush so I was already in my car pulling out of the parking lot before I even really looked at it otherwise I would have been in there letting her know i would never be back there again. Why lie about something so obvious? It's like handing me an apple and telling me it's an orange.
(1)Kristin L.
I love the coconut smoothie. I've yet to try a drink with tea in it here, so I've never actually tried a "bubble tea". The tapioca balls are best after they've frozen in the drink, after it sits for a few mins. There are some workers here who are more interested in talking amongst themselves, then taking your order :( This has happened more then once to me here, or else I wouldn't have mentioned it. There is WiFI here, I believe it's free. Comfy looking couches, and a few tables are here to sit and drink your drink
(3)Julia L.
My snapchat buddies would know this is my second home. I'm here almost every week while visiting my baby cousin near Hmart. BEST BUBBLE TEA PLACE AROUND!! I have to say they're better than joyees because it's not SUPER busy, the decor is cute, customer service is amazing, and they also use fresh fruit! My favorite flavors are Taro, Strawberry, Mango, Mango Peach (tastes more like mango surprisingly), and Honey Dew.
(5)Monica J.
This was my second time visiting Avalanche bubble tea. Personally, I love any restaurant or bubble tea place that sells taro flavor, and that's really the only flavor I get. I do like their taro bubble tea here because it's not overly sweet (I ask to lessen the sugar) and doesn't have that grimy/gritty feeling from powdered mixes. There is a wide array of flavors to choose from--some powdered mix and some fresh fruit. You can also have your tea hot, so really there's pretty much a flavor to satisfy anyone. The drinks themselves are a good value for the sizes. The large seems to be a little under 16 fl oz, so it's quite large. The tapioca pearls are optional add-on but free with each drink (I'm assuming not everyone who goes to a bubble tea place is a fan of those, but go figure?). You can also add other goodies inside your drink for an extra charge. The inside itself is a cozy cafe and seats about 10 or so people. The employees were very friendly as well. I definitely always try to stop by this place whenever I'm in the area, but I never really stay because there's always teenagers there (the only downside for me).
(4)Christina C.
Today's trip to Avalanche was incredibly disappointing. While taking a drink from my avocado avalanche, I consumed pieces of plastic, and some tin foil, which were definitely blended with the drink. Furthermore, the tapioca pearls were old. I understand that they shrink in cold beverages, but even so, they still retain their dark brown / black color. My tapioca pearls were more of a light brown like day old bubbles. (Source: I used to work at a bubble tea place.) Needless to say. I am extremely disappointed by this lack of care.
(1)Francis F.
So many different combination of flavors to choose from! I have to say that the fried banana bubble shake is awesome. Not really a fan of choco banana or purple oreo bubble shakes...
(4)Rosa J.
Our apartment was literally not "viable" for us internet-dependent human beings in the year of 2015. We had no power, no way to surf the web, no ability to catch up the Cubs baseball, and weren't fond of living in the dark. Therefore, we sneaked out to get some iced bubble teas. I found Avlanche Bubble Tea on Yelp, for it opens late until 2300 hour on the weekdays. They have a massive menu. I narrowed down to the fruity options and went with the mango passion fruit. On the other hand, making bubble tea flavors "capitalistic" apparently gave hubby a huge headache! He just couldn't make up his mind on what he wanted. Speaking of rendering great customer service, the young lady at the register should have jumped in and made her recommendation(s). However, she just stood still. Come on, girl! Don't you hate indecisive people when you're dealing with customers? Fortunately, there was no one behind us at that time. I took hubby out of the misery by shouting out "peach berry" and got this dilemma out of our way! While their tapioca pearls were slightly "tough" to my liking, the drinks were absolutely ice-cold and delicious! They have super comfy sofa, appropriate air-conditioning, and working free wifi. I can easily hang out here for hours and perhaps fall asleep (zZ...)! Avalanche Bubble Tea is located at the commercial plaza on the corner of Dempster and Ferris in Morten Grove. I'm definitely digging this place and will make a point of coming back here when I can.

Avalanche bubble tea is bubbilicious, yes you heard me, I said bubbilicious. One day I was fanatically craving bubble tea and my fiancé suggested that we wander over to Avalanche which I was more than happy to try out. I'm so very glad that I did because their bubble tea was super sweet and catered to my sweet tooth perfectly! Both my fiancé and I ordered the Thai tea and coconut bubble tea with tapioca...it couldn't have been any better! There were so many tapioca balls at the bottom - it was so totally awesome! As I said already, the bubble tea itself was super sweet and had I drank it any faster I would have had a major brain freeze. I wish I'd had a Trenta size of this bubble tea - I'm so serious. I will definitely be going back to Avalanche to test out several of their other flavors and combinations. There is an infinite number of flavors that you can combine here (though I can't guarantee all the combinations will be good) and there's probably something for everyone here. The only thing I wasn't particularly fond of was the decor. It was a little odd, but more than that it was dirty. The floor was dirty and so were the couches and chairs. The couches and chairs were dingy, ripped up and looked like they should be hitting the dumpster soon. I would recommend going to Avalanche, ordering a drink and getting it to go.

I was in the area after going to Old Orchard and was craving a milk tea. I am almost always craving milk tea and would probably drink it 24/7 if I could afford the diabetes. So i found this place on yelp, and ended up coming here to pick up a large milk tea. Prices include boba!!! I don't ever order boba with my milk tea though because it has too many extra calories. Plus, the boba is rarely sweet enough for my liking. The large milk tea here is $4.50 which is pretty average for the area, they have a huge assortment of different blended drinks to order!! I am not a huge fan of blended drinks because they are too heavy for me, but if you are looking for a pick me up in the middle of the day come here and try one out!

Congratulations Avalanche!! You just earned my 1st bad review. I ordered a Chocolate Banana Bubble Tea. I did not like it. I let the girl at the register know it was not to my liking and that I'll be ordering something else. I gave it back to her. To my surprise SHE CHARGED ME for the next drink! I let her know I felt it was not fair to get charged for 2 drinks. She went back to her "manager" to have a discussion about this. She returned and refunded me the money for the 2nd drink. Dumb dumb business is an understatement! Thank you for the refund Avalanche. Unfortunately I'm still annoyed I needed to ask for a refund.

Highly recommend this place to anyone who wants some really good bubble tea. This place may get busy at times but the wait is worth it. I'm from nyc, where bubble tea is everywhere, but when I first tried avalanche, it was amazing. Truly going to miss this gem, hopefully I can visit soon and go to avalanche!

On a quest for great bubble tea. This is ok, not great. And the owner seems to have a lot of "rules" he won't make dairy free, he won't make it without sugar, etc. you may want to go elsewhere for bubble tea.

Stopped by for the first time today and needed a minute to look at all the options. The girl at the cashier wasn't very friendly when answering my questions and could've been a bit more accommodating with my order. The drink was okay, and the tapioca was soft and chewy--though a little flavorless. Overall, both drink and service were mediocre. Maybe I'll give it another try this summer.

Several years ago I had a friend take me for bubble tea and of course it was at Avalanche which was formally called Chill and also called O! Bubble Tea. The flavors here are unlike any other bubble tea experience you have ever had with an overwhelming list of choices from purple Oreo, to blue raspberry, to raspberry redhead, mocha, and, chocolate cereal. When I was in college I would stop here before my evening class to get my coffee/bubble tea fix. Since then, anytime I'm in this area I have to get my bubble tea fix. Today was no different since I was in the area down the road at a pizzeria I knew we had to stop on the way back at Avalanche for a bubble tea. For myself, I ordered a strawberry raspberry banana bubble tea with mango jelly. The combination of tapioca and mango jelly is amazing! I've been ordering my drinks with both of those added to to the drinks since day one and I highly recommend it. Drinks here are usually on point and my smoothie was good, but it was very sweet and almost had a sour taste. Not the sour kind like the drink had gone bad, but just really tangy. I still thought the drink tasted good just next time I may order something else. When my husband and I first started dating I took him here to try bubble tea and he is not a fan of it, so I surprised him while he waited in the car for me with one of their hot drinks, a French vanilla latte. He appreciated the nice surprise, but thought the coffee tasted similar to something you would get from McDonald's. Next time I'm in the area and head over to Avalanche I'll try ordering something else, but like I said there are so many flavors to choose from that it won't be a problem finding something not as tangy. Head over to Avalanche for the ultimate bubble tea experience!

I LOVE this place. Ever since I "discovered" the magic that is bubble tea, I've been addicted to it. Sadly finding a decent place to get it has been a challenge over the years. Avalanche has been my go-to for the better part of the last seven years or so. Even now, I live way out near Naperville and I'll come up with a reason to "find" myself nearby. One of my favorite flavors is the Blue Strawberry hybrid. Unique and totally yum.

I'm changing my rating from 3 years ago. Since then, I've been there once again and had the same review as I did previously. But lately, my coworker had been raving about how he loves Avalanche's Banana Coconut...nearly every day at work. I kept insisting that Liquid Fusion is the absolute best (which I still believe), but tonight I gave Avalanche another shot. The place was extremely packed when we came at 10:45, 15 minutes before closing. It was really hot and stifling. We were kindly greeted by the guy behind the counter, welcoming us in. He recognized my coworker immediately and knew his order. He was helpful despite the line and happy to help (: I ordered a large Wild Strawberry (strawberry with a hint of lemon) with tapioca and it came out to be exactly $5. I didn't get the idea of any artificial taste, my smoothie was fresh, satisfying, and delicious. The tapioca was super chewy, but lacked flavor...which is why I took a star off. And after a while, they did freeze and get a bit firm, but that wasn't too bad. Their decor is still tacky and their chairs are pretty flimsy...but I finally think I'll be giving this place a few more chances.

Some of you have wondered, where in the hell have you been this year?!!! Great answer for that. I've been at Avalanche slurping away because this my friends was one of my pregnancy cravings! Yep, bubble tea. I had to have almond milk tea every single day. I summed it up to the fact that it's liquid, so less calories. Sure, whatever I can convince myself to allow one drink a day since caffeine had been cut from my diet. When almond milk tea rotation was over, I moved into half coconut/half taro. Heavenly. Perfect combo of coconut and that strange purple fruit that mostly Asians appreciate. The only feat to this place is that they don't have a punch card. Wish they did because I probably would've gotten a few free drinks with how often we were going here. Note to owners: I'll be back when I'm pregnant with #2. Punch card appreciated! Note to self: yes, pretend that second drink order is for hubs, but really drink half of it on the way home :)

I live in the east lakeview area but when im at my boyfriends I have to get bubble tea before going back to the city. So far this is the best I've tried in chicago but I've tried to die for bubble tea in japan and taiwan which has perfect tapioca! The owner im guessing recommended the mango passionfruit so I've been getting that for the last couple weeks but now I do have it less sweetened since I dont like anything too sweet. The only thing I could think of as of suggestions is that I wish they had more fresh fruit selections especially since summer is around the corner. Yes there are times when its really busy (10-15 minute wait) and times where I find im the only one there. Anyways try the mango passion fruit! Delish. :)

If I had Diabetes, this would be the place where I would Overdose! Atmosphere: Very trendy with a lot of overstimulating colors. Who did the interior decorating must be one hip individual. I love it despite how much my introverted soul clashes with this place! I swear this could be a setting for a KPOP video or K-Drama. This place gets swamped by teenagers on Friday and Saturday nights. Service: Friendly and Pleasant. I have gone enough times to encounter everyone who works here. They have all had to dealt with my indecisiveness and crazy bubble tea creations. I appreciate how they will go the extra mile to help you. They have opened the door for me when my hands are full and have gone in the back to get bigger containers for my very large orders. Bubble Tea: Have you ever experienced True Love? Well this place has bubble tea that rivals with only two other places for my hearts affections. I am Joey B. Bubble Tea Connoisseur! Where do I even begin? I would say Avalanche has the most variety with flavors among all the places I have visited through my life's journey. Taro, Mountain Dew, Fuji Apple, Cheesecake, Fried Banana just to name some of the crazy flavors. You can really put your mad scientist hat and create some fantastic flavors of your own. Peanut Butter Cheesecake and Avocado Green Tea are my personal favorites. It becomes really hard to get sick of bubble tea when there are an endless amount of combinations. Not to mention the variety of toppings they have such as Mango Jelly. The Tapioca Bubbles are pleasantly soft and have just the right amount of chewiness. So what separates Avalanche's Bubble from the best? I have been first customer of day, last customer at 1am, and plenty of times in between. The signature texture and euphoric flavor is there for your tongue to ride the waves on. Finding your flavor is like finding your soul mate. Pro Tip: Order over the phone if you want to avoid long lines or to reduce the amount of time you have to be around teenagers. Also the 10 minute parking sign isn't law enforced. Been at Avalanche for hours at a time hanging out with friends. I have tried Bubble Tea all over the world, and I am proud to have such a place to go to that is 15 minutes away from home. As a Bubble Tea Connoisseur Avalanche is Top 3 in my heart!

I came here at a co-worker's recommendation, since he claimed it was one of the best tapioca tea places he's tried. However, I wasn't very pleased with the green tea bubble drink that I got. The bubbles weren't very chewy, and the taste of the milk tea was not right. I wouldn't go out of my way to drive out to Niles, and I'd rather go to Kung Fu Tea in Evanston, since it has more authentic and customizable options--the sugar, ice, temperature of the drinks can be tailored.

This is my first to review ever and it is not unfortunately a positive one. The bubble tea that I am holding in my hand burns my mouth like crazy. It is banana and mango flavored. There is maybe 5 chunks of tapioca. It's been really anti climactic but the burning has been pretty consistent. I'm used to my drink being about one quarter of the way filled up with tapioca. Waah.

I actually go out of my way to get bubble tea from here. Rather it be hot or cold bubble tea, it's amazing. The employees are super friendly. I've only been here twice and had a great experience.

Great place it's like a local hang out spot. I recommend the strawberry cheesecake it's amazing!

Awesome bubble tea! I've gotten raspberry, green tea, and Hawaiian green tea, always with tapioca. All good, but the keep in mind that the raspberry is more sour and tart than it is sweet. It's still delicious. Dude that was working was super friendly and helpful. Unique decor-- you can see that in the pictures.

Very cute place, and the guy behind the counter is very nice. I ordered Green Milk Tea Bubble - for someone that grow up with bubble tea (country that invented bubble tea), milk tea bubble is the standard test. Flavour: Passed with flying colour Bubble with tea ratio: not enough bubble, yes i know i can always to get double the bubble.. but throw in another half a scoop of bubble for a large cup. Now.. the ultimate test : Bubble - it could be better. It cooked a little too long... But! Cooking bubble is not as easy as it seems, so i will surely go back for second or third to see if they do get it right ... esp with HOT bubble tea... when its not so hot outside...

I've probably been to all of the main bubble tea spots in the suburbs ... Joy Yees, Liquid Fusion, Mitsuwa, Chill, Avalanche.... Avalanche and Liquid Fusion are my definite favorites. They used to have a Hawaiian Green Tea on the menu. Now you have to ask for Green Tea with pineapple and coconut. Try it. It's bubble tea nirvana. I've tried a few other drinks, which were also solid, but I keep going back to that Hawaiian Green Tea well. Bottom line is that if you are a bubble tea enthusiast, this place needs to be in the rotation.

I feel like it's too powdery for me. I've tried so many bubble tea places. This isn't the best, but neither the worst. Considering the time I have to drive, this is my go-to place for bubble tea.

I came here on a Friday evening..and let me just say... Parking is sooo hard to find because it's located next to a Hookah Bar (apparently a lot of ppl go there--you'll see a line out the door) and some ppl choose to take 2 parking spots (err..)...so don't drive around aimlessly in the parking lot trying to find a spot near the raccoon (yes you will randomly spot a raccoon or a couple raccoons near the trash area) .. but just find some street parking in the neighborhood close by... Drinks: I had a milk tea and as many state in their reviews.. it does taste like they just mixed it with powder...sad... -I had the strawberry hot milk tea.. it was good..but when I was done drinking.. i saw the powder leftover in the cup.. must have not gotten mixed well enough.. **the drinks are extremely sweet... Customer Care: the guy that took my order was really friendly and patient while I took some time making a decision on what to order... Costs: ~$3+ for Bubble Tea/Milk Tea served hot or cold.. Atmosphere: cute decor and comfy chairs..:)....a to-go place to go with friends to just chat the night away... Parking: as mentioned.. it's hard to find...better luck finding a spot in the neighborhood..just make sure you don't park in a permit only parking zone...
